MTC - Week 1

Thanksgiving
Hi Everyone,

For Thanksgiving tomorrow there is a devotional broadcast and I am in the choir. They said it would be a "worldwide" broadcast, I’m not sure what that means, and who will be able to see it.  Maybe you can see me on TV! Haha. The  whole day we don't have classes or any of our regularly scheduled activities. We will be on Main Campus most of the day for devotionals, I think. They say there will be amazing speakers all this month with Christmas and the holidays.  I am really looking forward to that!

So this is my schedule,  roughly- we ALWAYS wake up at 6:30. We usually have until 7:30 to get ready, and then we go to breakfast.  It’s really nice having an hour every morning to get ready. We only have one bathroom for 6 girls, so that's been a little hard. One girl gets up early everyday to curl her hair and everything. I usually just do the bun thing, or if I shower fast enough, I'll dry and braid my hair.

Most of the days we have gym time for 40 minutes or so and a half hour afterwards to shower if we want. We usually have an hour for language study in the classroom on our own and normal study time for an hour in the classroom too. They really just let you learn a lot on your own here, which I didn't expect.

We have 30 - 40 minutes in the cafeteria for meals.  They have the main dish which will be like some meat and veggies.  It always seems super small but they're more filling than you think. You get the main dish if you want it, then they always have a small soup/fruit/salad bar to go along with it. They have soda and juice machines and milk/chocolate milk- which everyone is OBSESSED with. They also always have things like doughnuts and cake and cookies and stuff.

West Campus is way smaller and I've only been to main campus twice. I guess the MTC is what I expected in some ways. I didn't realize how much freedom we have especially with learning on our own.

Have a Happy Thanksgiving!!

Con amor, Hermana Harper

MTC Arrival

Sister Harper's Arrival at the Provo MTC

Sister Emma Harrison and Sister Hilary Harper (Cousins)
When we pulled into the MTC to drop off Hilary, one of the first people we saw was Hilary's cousin Emma Harrison.  We knew Emma would be looking for Hilary, and we were looking for Emma, but we thought it might be a long shot that we would actually run into each other.  Emma was able to follow our car down to, almost the very front drop off spot, and she was also able to be Hilary's MTC Host!  We were glad to have Emma there, it made the drop off a little less emotional because of our excitement to see Emma.

Hilary later explained to me in a letter, that after we dropped her off, Emma took her to pick up her name tag and her books.  Then Emma took her to the Van, which took her to MTC West, which is where Hilary stayed while she was in the MTC.  All of the missionaries who live at MTC West are Spanish speaking.  Hilary said they started talking to her in Spanish as soon as she got to MTC West, and from that point on, she could only speak Spanish.
